Dr Brendan Cronin is a Brisbane-based corneal and refractive surgeon recognised for his work in keratoconus and minimally invasive corneal procedures. With Dr David Gunn, he co-introduced CAIRS surgery to Australia and co-developed CAIRSPlan.
Training
Medical degree from the University of Queensland, with prior degrees in Commerce and Law. Subspecialty fellowship in Corneal, Refractive and Anterior Segment Surgery at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, United Kingdom.
Clinical focus
- Keratoconus management — particularly the Athens Protocol (topography-guided laser combined with corneal cross-linking) and CAIRS.
- Cataract surgery — including premium intraocular lens options.
- Corneal transplantation — full-thickness and lamellar techniques.
- Refractive surgery — LASIK, SMILE and implantable contact lenses.
- Pterygium surgery.
Research & innovation
Author of two ophthalmology textbooks. Holds international patents in corneal cross-linking technology. Regular international conference speaker, with publications in major ophthalmology journals. Co-author of the first published nomogram for femtosecond-laser CAIRS.
